Description
This is a French gold necklace by Wièse, circa 1890. The design features polished spherical beads and phallic motifs with rope twist and hammered decoration in an archaeological revivalist style. The clasp is designed as an ouroboros, the ancient Greek symbol of a snake eating its own tail. This piece uses a gold alloy with a reddish patina to give the impression of an ancient jewel that has been buried for centuries. It weighs 90 grams and measures 47cm / 18.5 inches in length.
