Description
This Saint Cecelia chatelaine pendant by Froment-Meurice is crafted in 18kt yellow gold and silver, French, circa 1850. Designed in the Renaissance Revival style, it features an openwork architectural altarpiece motif with a central figure of Saint Cecelia playing a viola da gamba, accompanied by putti and fleur-de-lis details. The pendant is accented with blue enamel and set with 11 natural pearls, with chain elements that suspend a lapis lazuli seal and a watch winder. It measures approximately 9.50 cm in total length and weighs 39.00 grams, with a hinged band loop on the reverse for wear. A drawing of this design is included in Henri Vever’s ‘French Jewellery of the Nineteenth Century’, London, 2001, page 234.
